We are thrilled to announce the launch of EPND+, an independent, non-profit organisation that will build on the EPND consortium project to deliver a lasting foundation for future research - allowing its infrastructure, resources, and tools to be reused, adapted, and scaled by new initiatives.
When EPND began, the neurodegenerative disease field faced a problem no single institution could solve alone: valuable biosamples and data, scattered across borders, with no coordinated way to bring them together at the scale our sector was ready for. The field needed a properly built network, where partners could come together to make these resources easier to discover and use.
EPND's evolution into a standalone entity is tangible evidence that sustained investment in public-private partnership pays off. It’s also a signal to the wider community that this kind of collaboration carries real strategic and scientific value, well beyond the research it produces. We share this because the next chapter belongs to everyone who helped build it.
EPND+ will continue to operate and develop the EPND Hub, providing infrastructure and tools for data and biosample discovery and sharing. As a European legal entity, it can also support new research initiatives with adaptable Hub infrastructure and practical data-sharing support, tailored to different research communities and disease areas, rather than requiring them to develop these capabilities from scratch. We’re proud to carry forward the important work and hard-won trust this consortium spent years building, work we remain responsible for honouring.
None of this happens without the people who built it: academic, clinical, industry, regulatory, and patient partners who trusted us with their data in the first place. Thank you for that trust. We intend to keep earning it.
